Karma is often called the law of cause and effect. Whenever good or bad "luck" crosses our path, people often say that it is the result of past karmic energies. What is the truth behind this way of thinking?
- The crux of the matter lies in
reappraising our thinking of karma as the result of either past
misdeeds or past benevolence.
- It would be more helpful to think of karma
as action(s) performed against the backdrop of an eternal
now.
- By this we mean to say that all actions
are the fruits of a previous thought.
- That thought finds its fullest expression in the conclusion reached regardless if we outwardly act on it or not.
Modern science tells us that the physical body is permanently involved in replacing all that is worn and expired within us at a cellular level. How and to what level of perfection this is performed is the realm of thought from which physical existence springs - for the incompleteness of the thought process which underpins physical existence is what we call illness.
Here we need to grasp the concept of Universal Time which exists independently and is quite distinct from man’s understanding of time per se - for it is a tool of karma. Our understanding of past, present and future is quite ephemeral in comparison to Universal Time. That is, we do not possess the breadth of karmic vision to fully comprehend it. Therefore we need to undergo more "schooling" in karma!
Karma, then, is the means by which we may exist in the perfection of thought within our physical imperfection. It is the unending process of self rehabilitation via our interaction with all that around us. It is the mirror of this outer interaction reflecting from an internal level. We may also say that it is neither punishment nor reward. For this presupposes a knowledge greater than the present moment allows.
We should also be aware of national, social, group and gender karmas in addition to personal karma. For all have a word or two to say about us. Since we do not live divorced from all around us this is another factor to be considered.

On that subject we may, however, say a few words with reference to DESTINY.
All "reality" as we know it, is simply the unending tapestry that we ceaselessly weave about us - using the "thread" of thought. That is the point to the above reference to the "eternal now". Who shall say what is truly past, present or future? Our physical existence is proof perfect for this to be so.
